Travel Health

Here at SwimTrek we pride ourselves on our focus on safety and the well-being of all our guests. As we operate in some beautiful and remote locations medical facilities are not always easily accessible. SwimTrek Guides, and many staff working for our local partners, are first aid trained. However we ask that you read on to ensure that you are informed about general Travel and Swim Health precautions.

Swim Health

Due to the nature of operating in open water certain precautions are necessary. Swimming Conditions in open water can change quickly, and our trips can be physically challenging. To help ensure everyone is prepared we ask guests to complete a health declaration during our booking process. If answering yes to one or more of these questions, we advise that a medical opinion is sought before taking part in our trips.

The SwimTrek health declaration is available via this link SwimTrek health declaration IMPORTANT: Please note that this medical form is separate to the ‘My Health Details’ section of your SwimTrek account which also needs to be completed prior to the start of your trip. When seeking a medical opinion from a certified medical practitioner you may find there is a charge for their service. These charges can vary considerably. If you are not happy with the price you are quoted we suggest you shop around

As part of your application for many of our Races & Events, like Bosphorus and Hellespont, and certain coaching camps, like our Channel and Long Distance training camp, you will need to have a medical examination by a certified medical practitioner. Please Note that there will likely be a fee for a doctor's sign off and this may need to be done privately. It is your responsibility to book and pay for your medical appointment with sufficient time to complete your form and return it to us before the agreed deadline.

Travel Heath & Vaccination Advice

Our Trip Notes list know health requirements for the destinations visited on each trip. We strongly recommend that you contact your doctor or a travel health clinic for up-to-date advice. For comprehensive health information for travel to your chosen destination, including all recommended and required vaccinations, you may like to visit www.travelhealthpro.org.uk and www.fitfortravel.nhs.uk. Please note that this information is subject to change and you should re-check this site regularly prior to travel.

Motion Sickness

You can get motion sick in a airplane, train, car or on a boat. On SwimTrek holidays we use a lot of boats!

Medication, as tablets or patches, can be used to prevent or treat motion sickness but many cause drowsiness. Talk to a healthcare professional to get best advice on precautions to take.

We suggest that you also investigate ways of preventing motion sickness without medicine. Your SwimTrek guides can help with ideas on this if you feel unwell on your trip.

Coronavirus (COVID-19)

Please check COVID-19 entry requirements for your chosen destination and those of any country you travel through. Travellers may need to provide proof of vaccination against the virus and/or a negative test.

We understand how the Coronavirus outbreak causes concerns for our guests. So we’ve put together a page with more information to help answer any specific questions you may have: Coronavirus questions and latest information. After booking we will provide more detail on local guidelines, requirements and availability of Covid testing.

Travel Insurance

We consider it essential to have adequate travel insurance cover for things like illness, accident, emergency repatriation, ambulance, air ambulance, helicopter rescue services. Your travel insurance should also cover you for open water swimming and any other activity listed in your trip itinerary (including races and competitions, where applicable). For further information about travel insurance, please visit: www.swimtrek.com/travel-insurance.

On location support

on location support

Our guiding team and boat operators on each location have been briefed and trained with updated operating policies to minimise the risk of COVID-19. All locations are, as always, supported by a 24/7 head office operational support team. Our guiding team follow standard operating procedures and emergency action plans specific to each location.

Global health advice

As global health advice is ever changing and different in each country of operation, SwimTrek will follow the strictest advice that is possible to implement in each location. There will also be country-specific local laws that will need to be followed on each location. Our guiding team will be on hand to assist throughout the duration of your trip and will be in communication with the Head office Operations team to be kept abreast of any operating updates.

Swimming

Our approach to group swimming is about having fun but safely. We split groups into 2-3 smaller groups and generally a small safety boat or our main boat will accompany each group providing safety cover, marshalled by our safety team.
